چکیده

Intervention Patients were allocated to levodopa, 100 mg, plus carbidopa (n=26) or to placebo (n=27) given daily in the morning > 30 minutes before the physiotherapy session for 3 weeks. For the next 3 weeks, both groups had 1 hour of daily physiotherapy from Monday to Friday without the allocated treatment. 1 week before and during the study, all patients stopped receiving any drugs that affected norepinephrine concentrations.

Effect of methylphenidate and/or levodopa coupled with physiotherapy on functional and motor recovery after stroke--a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial.

OBJECTIVE Amphetamine-like drugs are reported to enhance motor recovery and activities of daily living (ADL) in stroke rehabilitation, but results from trials with humans are inconclusive. This study is aimed at investigating whether levodopa (LD) and/or methylphenidate (MPH) in combination with physiotherapy could improve functional motor recovery and ADL in patients with stroke. Effect of Mirror Therapy on the Motor Recovery in Patients After Stroke: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Objectives: One of the most important problems seen in patients after stroke is that they cannot develop normal muscle strength. In recent years, the use of Mirror Therapy (MT) in the recovery of this condition has been noticed in different studies. This study investigated the effect of MT on motor recovery in patients after stroke. Methods: In this clinical trial, 93 patients were divided int...

Effect of entacapone, a peripherally acting catechol-O-methyltransferase inhibitor, on the motor response to acute treatment with levodopa in patients with Parkinson's disease.

Catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitors may be useful in the treatment of Parkinson's disease by improving the bioavailability of levodopa and by prolonging its effects. Entacapone (OR-611), a novel COMT inhibitor, which does not cross the blood brain barrier, was assessed in 12 patients with Parkinson's disease and motor fluctuations in a randomised, double-blind, cross-over, single dos...
